OUR BELIEFS - THE CAMP ORGANIZATION STATEMENT OF FAITH

In his response to the Pharisees in Matthew 22, Jesus said that the two greatest commandments are to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind, and to love your neighbor as yourself. He went on to say that 'All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.' That is why we hang every Camp Manatawny effort on these same principles. It is our goal to share the knowledge of this love with every young person who comes to Camp, and to demonstrate it in positive and meaningful ways during each Camp experience. In order to facilitate the most meaningful impact and the clearest message, we have put forth the following statements to illustrate the beliefs held by the Camp Manatawny organization.

I believe:

1. In God the Father, all knowing and all powerful, who is the creator and sustainer of life.

        Genesis 1:1
        1 Timothy 2:5 & 6
        Acts 17:27-28
        Psalm 90:1.2

2. In Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, both fully God and fully human. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died as the sacrificial substitute to pay for the penalty of sin, physically rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and He will return one day to judge all.

        John 1:1-4
        Matthew 1:18
        2 Corinthians 5:21
        1 Peter 2:24
        Colossians 1:15-20
        Romans 6:5-11
        1 Thessalonians 4:13-17

3. In the Holy Spirit, who lives in believers and who proceeds from the Father. The Spirit guides and empowers the work of God in the redemption of the world.

        Acts 2:38
        John 15:26
        Romans 8:1-17 & 27

4. In the Bible, the inspired, perfect, and authoritative Word of God, which is used for teaching, helping people, correcting them, and showing them how to live. (2 Timothy 3:16)

5. In the one Church, the body of Christ in the world, which carries out God's mission in the world.

        Colossians 1:18
        Ephesians 1:22-23

6. Salvation through Jesus Christ is a continual process, made possible by grace through faith in which believers participate solely on the basis of His love and grace.

        Romans 3:21-26 & 5:1-11
        1 John1:5-7

7. That the plan of salvation as described in the New Testament includes:
a. Repenting from sin (Acts 17:30)
b. Confessing that Jesus is the son of God. (Romans 10: 9 & 10)
c. Being baptized by immersion (Acts 2:38; Acts 8:36)
d. Striving to continue living a transformed, obedient life (Romans 12:1-2)
